Enzo Mari curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist with Francesca Giacomelli

Dedicated to the work and ideas of the famous Italian designer, artist and theorist Enzo Mari (1932 - 2020),
the exhibition at C-Mine Genk brings never before-seen projects, models, drawings, films and posters, from
the 'Enzo Mari Archive'. The expo also includes a series of documents and video interviews aiming to
highlight Mari's critical and radical take on design.

The historical section is complemented by a series of contributions from contemporary, international artists
and designers who were invited pay tribute to Mari with new installations: Adrian Paci, Barbara Stauffacher
Solomon, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Tacita Dean, Nanda Vigo and Virgil Abloh and OpenStructures.

Thomas Lommée and Christiane Högner of OS_Studio resampled two of his table designs:
the Capitello table for Driade (Tondo version) from 1977 and the Hotdog table for Lema, an unrealised prototype from 1987.  By synchronising their different elements to the grid of OpenStructures, they become compatible with the rest of the system and can be intertwined with one another to this hybrid configuration. By doing so, they aspire to revitalise Mari’s legacy and open up his designs to the re-interpretation of others.
