The workshop, ‘Prototyping inclusive seating’ at La Centrale Brussels was dedicated to contemplating additions to existing furniture with the intention to make everyone feel welcome and considered. It started with the deconstruction of the Military chair by Gerrit Rietveld, whose components were first adapted to fit the OpenStructures grid. Subsequently the iconic shape was remodelled and tailored to the varying physical characteristics of different ages and needs of visitors at the Centrale for Contemporary Art. The workshop concluded with the conference "Pour un design inclusif: corps et espaces culturels" in partnership with Fat-Friendly Association, led by Deborah Claire and Camille Thiry, and moderated by ‘Architecture qui degenre’, the collective for gender-inclusive architecture. The workshop and conference provoked a dialogue revolving around various approaches to designing inclusive spaces.
Labdays is initiated and organised by the Brussels based collective ‘Maak & Transmettre’.
